Coach and Minibus Hire in the United Kingdom

Meeting your group at Glasgow Airport

Glasgow keeps group pickups in one place. Coaches, minibuses and anything tall all use Zone C, right outside the terminal, so there's no trek round a car park with your luggage.

Zone C, just outside the doors

Zone C belongs to the airport's Pick Up and Drop Off area inside the terminal multi-storey, straight out of the main building. It has room for large coaches and no height restriction, so a high-roof minibus fits too. It is uncovered, though, so on a wet evening keep the coats handy.

You pay by card at the barrier on the way out, and the charge only covers up to 15 minutes; anything longer means Short Stay parking. In practice that means loading briskly, so have everyone and everything together before the driver pulls in.

If the driver gets there first

If the coach is early, it can wait without charge in the Long Stay car park, but only for half an hour. Beyond that the airport publishes nothing, which is why a flight number in the booking and a message from the baggage hall make such a difference.

Good to know at Glasgow Airport

  • Car Park 1 (multi-storey) and Car Park 2 have height restrictions; the Car Park 1 surface lot takes vehicles of any height.
  • The airport is reached from junction 28 of the M8 from the east or junction 29 from the west.
  • The Pick Up and Drop Off facility is charged for stays of up to 15 minutes, paid by card at the forecourt exit barrier; longer stays belong in Short Stay parking.

Into Glasgow, or straight on to the lochs

The M8 takes you the 9 miles or so to George Square in 15 to 20 minutes on a good run. Glasgow's centre is a Low Emission Zone you can't pay to enter: a minibus must be Euro 6 diesel or Euro 4 petrol, and a non-compliant vehicle gets a penalty notice. The M8 itself sits outside the zone.

Many groups head north instead. Balloch on Loch Lomond is about 20 miles from the city, Glencoe about 90 and Oban about 95, so the Highlands can start on the day you land.

Your questions

Can a high-roof minibus get into Zone C?

Yes. Zone C has no height restriction, which is why taller vehicles use it alongside coaches.

How long can the driver wait in Zone C?

It isn't a place to wait, since the charge only runs to 15 minutes. The driver waits elsewhere and comes in once you're ready.

If our flight is badly delayed, where does the vehicle park?

Car Park 2 and the multi-storey part of Car Park 1 both restrict height, but Car Park 1's open-air surface lot doesn't, so a tall minibus can go there. Your operator will pick the best option once your new landing time is known.

We're off on a cruise from Greenock. Can we go there directly?

Yes. Greenock's Ocean Terminal is about 25 miles west of Glasgow, roughly 40 minutes from the city.
