Coach and Minibus Hire in the United Kingdom

London Minibus Hire, Driver Included

London is wonderful with a group and tiring without a plan. A minibus with a driver takes the Tube changes, the suitcases and the map-reading off your hands, so the day is spent together rather than counting heads at ticket barriers.

Why a smaller vehicle suits London

Central streets are tight and stops are brief. A minibus or Sprinter carrying a family party, a wedding group or a visiting team fits hotel frontages in Bloomsbury or Kensington that a full-size coach would find awkward. If your numbers climb past a couple of dozen, we'll suggest a midi or full-size coach instead.

Your driver still works to London's kerbside rules: on red routes and yellow lines the vehicle may stop only while people are actually getting in or out. The easiest pickups happen when everyone is already in the lobby with coats on.

Clean air rules without the jargon

The ULEZ covers every London borough, all day and every day except Christmas Day. Minibuses up to 5 tonnes need a Euro 4 petrol or Euro 6 diesel engine; heavier minibuses and coaches answer to the Low Emission Zone's Euro VI standard. That part sits with the operator, and it's why newer vehicles are worth requesting.

One crossing you won't use: the Rotherhithe Tunnel is too narrow and too low for coaches and most minibuses, so trips across the Thames go by bridge or the Blackwall Tunnel instead.

Arriving by ship

Which airport, and why it matters

Heathrow is the nearest of the four, about 17 miles from Trafalgar Square and roughly 40 minutes on a clear road. Gatwick, Luton and Stansted are all 30 miles or more away, and every one of them stretches at rush hour. When a group is choosing flights, that difference can decide whether the first evening is dinner in town or a late check-in.

Each airport handles group collections its own way. Heathrow holds chartered coaches in a coach park until they're called forward, while at Stansted a vehicle with fewer than nine seats, driver included, collects from the Short Stay car park. Send flight numbers when you book and the timing can be planned around them.

Leaving the city for the day

As a rule of thumb, anything around an hour each way, like Windsor or the Studio Tour at Leavesden, works as a half-day with lunch back in town. Once the drive passes two hours each way, as it does for Bath, you're planning a full day with an early start and a relaxed stop on the way home.

Your questions

Can the minibus wait outside our hotel while everyone gets ready?

Usually not on the street. Stopping is allowed only while passengers board, so it helps to gather inside and let your driver message when they're two minutes away.

Can we hop out for photos at Buckingham Palace?

Yes, but it's set-down and pick-up only there and the vehicle must then move on. Agree a meeting point and a time before anyone steps off.

Is Wembley manageable for a group going to a match or concert?

Very. There's a large covered coach park on Lakeside Way, about six minutes' walk from the stadium, and booking ahead is strongly advised on big event days.
