Coach and Minibus Hire in the United Kingdom

Your group's arrival at Liverpool John Lennon

Liverpool John Lennon is a compact, single-terminal airport, and its pickup rules split neatly by vehicle size. Knowing which side of the line your minibus sits on saves an unnecessary walk with the cases.

Larger minibuses and coaches

Vehicles with more than 16 seats, whether coaches, limousines or large minibuses, use the coach bays on the terminal front and may stay there for up to 30 minutes. Signs marked Coaches/Fast Track lead the driver in, and a pre-booked vehicle's number plate lifts the barrier.

There's no separate coach waiting area. A driver who arrives without a booking is met by the airport's landside team and sent to a pay station, and it costs more than booking ahead.

Smaller minibuses

Below 16 seats and lower than 2.15 metres, a minibus collects from the car park straight across from the terminal, named Express Drop-off and Pick-up, and pays on the way out like everyone else. Anything taller is sent round behind the multi-storey to a dedicated section of Long Stay.

Your confirmation will say which, but it's worth knowing that a high-roof van may mean a slightly longer walk.

The terminals

  • Single passenger terminal

Good to know at Liverpool John Lennon Airport

  • The eastbound exit slip road at junction 6 of the M62 is closed until spring 2027, with a diversion via junction 7.
  • Scheduled national coach services do not call at the airport; they serve Liverpool ONE bus station, from which buses, including an airport express service, run to the airport.
  • Minibuses of fewer than 16 seats and under 2.15 m high use the Express Drop-off and Pick-up car park, directly opposite the terminal, and pay the same as other vehicles on exit; those over 2.15 m use a dedicated area in the Long Stay car park behind the multi-storey.

Into the city and beyond

Lime Street station is 8 or 9 miles from the airport, around 25 minutes in light traffic, and Liverpool has no charging Clean Air Zone. If you're crossing to the Wirral, bigger vehicles take the Kingsway tunnel because the Queensway is limited to 3.5 tonnes.

From the city, Chester is about 25 miles and Conwy in North Wales about 65, so a castle can easily be part of your first full day.

Your questions

Some of us are coming by national coach. Will they arrive at the airport?

No. Scheduled national coaches don't call at the airport; they stop at Liverpool ONE bus station, where buses including an airport express run out to the terminal. Meeting at your hotel may be simpler.

Is Manchester Airport an option for a Liverpool trip?

It can be. Manchester Airport is about 35 miles from Liverpool, roughly 50 minutes, and sometimes has the better flight times.

We're a hen party staying by the waterfront. Where can we be dropped?

The city's coach map marks a short-stay bay close to the Royal Albert Dock, on Gower Street, allowing 10 minutes at any hour. It's an old map, so check the signs on the street before relying on it.

How long can a large minibus wait on the terminal front?

Up to 30 minutes in the coach bays. Share your flight number so the driver arrives when you do rather than too early.
