Coach and Minibus Hire in the United Kingdom

Glasgow Minibus Hire and Highland Days Out

Plenty of Scottish tours begin in Glasgow. Loch Lomond is barely 35 minutes away, and Stirling, Glencoe and Oban all make memorable days out. With a minibus and a driver, everyone in your group gets to watch the scenery instead of the road.

The Low Emission Zone, simply put

Glasgow's LEZ covers about a square mile of the centre, between the M8, the Clyde and High Street, 24 hours a day, all year. A diesel minibus needs Euro 6 and a petrol one Euro 4; coaches need Euro VI.

Here's the catch: you can't pay to drive in. A vehicle that falls short gets a penalty notice from the cameras, so a compliant minibus is essential if your hotel is in the city centre.

Concert nights and big games

At the Scottish Event Campus, the OVO Hydro has a dedicated set-down and collection area to the west of the SEC Centre, which keeps the after-show meet-up straightforward. Hampden, Celtic Park and Ibrox all draw big crowds too, so arrange a pickup point on a quieter street nearby.

Airports and the cruise terminal

From Glasgow Airport it's about 9 miles along the M8 to George Square, often under 20 minutes. Coaches, minibuses and other tall vehicles all use Zone C in the terminal multi-storey, which has no height limit, and a coach that turns up early can wait free for half an hour in the Long Stay car park.

Prestwick is further out, about 45 minutes away. Coming off a cruise at Greenock's Ocean Terminal? That's roughly 40 minutes to the city, and a good moment to have your driver waiting rather than hunting for taxis.

Lochs, glens and castles

Stirling Castle and the Falkirk Wheel with The Kelpies are each well under an hour, a relaxed pairing for a single day. Glencoe and Oban are two hours or more each way, so treat them as full days with a proper lunch stop, and let the driver set the pace on the Highland roads.

Your questions

Can an older minibus drive into Glasgow city centre?

Not unless it meets the standard: Euro 6 for diesel, Euro 4 for petrol. There's no option to pay and enter, so we ask for a compliant vehicle from the start.

Where will the driver collect us after a Hydro concert?

Use the Hydro's dedicated collection area, west of the SEC Centre. Agree a time with your driver, as the area gets very busy when a show ends.

Is a Glencoe day trip realistic from Glasgow?

Yes, with an early start. It's about 90 miles and two hours each way, so plan for a long, scenic day.
